A Decade of Regional Centres of Expertise on ESD: Reflections and Advances in Asia-Pacific

 

RCE Penang

 

 

RCE Penang has been appointed as the United Nations` Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) on Education for Sustainable Development in conjunction with the United Nations Decade on Education for for Sustainable Develoipment.

This makes RCE Penang, one of the seven pioneering group of RCEs in the whole world together with the Greater Sendai Area RCE Japan, RCE Toronto Canada, RCE Okayama Japan, RCE for Pacific Island Countries, RCE Rhine-Meuse Holland and RCE Barcelona Spain. Each will play its role in providing education for sustainable development and take the necessary steps to translate sustainable development into reality for the community in which the RCE operates.

 

Regional Centre of Expertice (RCE) is a network organization of formal and informal education to move the delivery of education for sustainable development (ESD) in the local and regional community by providing space for global learning for sustainable development. RCE aspire to achieve the goal of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD 2005-2014), by translating global objectives into the context of their community. One of the annual activities of the educational organization's network, is to hold its annual meeting (Asia Pacific RCE Meeting) and sustainable educational symposium in line with regional meetings.
